Website redesign to enhance user experience.

Background

The Parenting Place is a non-profit organization based in La Crosse Wisconsin that provided free services for families with children ages 0-5 years old. The Marketing Team expressed interest in re-designing two site pages: “Support Us” and the “Diaper Bank” pages to increase accessibility, and ease of use for participants.

The Problem

The existing website is visually over-stimulating and lacks clear actionable steps for donor engagments.

The Design Challenge

Design the website to meet various user needs in a clean and concise way, that engages donors, community members, and participants.

Proposed Solution

Conduct user testing to discover opportunities for site improvement, focusing on the “Diaper Bank” and “Support Us” pages.

User Research

  • Usability Testing & User Interviews with 15 Participants

  • Card Sorting with 5 Participants

Information Architecture

Site Map

Rethinking content organization was the first step. The previous navigation structure was not intuitive to users and created confusion when searching for a program or topic of interest.

Site Map - Final

Key Changes:

  • Combine utility navigation and main navigation.

  • Include “Support Us” in the main navigation.

  • Restructure hierarchy of pages within main navigation.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

After reorganizing the navigation structure I took to pen and paper to sketch low-fidelity wireframes to discover possible solutions to user challenges.

Mid Fidelity Wireframes

The Mid-Fidelity Wireframes took on two iterations after further discussion with WordPress Developers. The second iteration eliminated tabs, and included anchors to efficiently take the user to the desired topic.

High Fidelity Wireframes

High Fidelity wireframes emphasize agency brand colors, fonts, and imagery to portray a clean, minimal UI that enhances user ease while visiting the site.
